Join us on the first Tuesday of each summer month for a timed run of just under 2 miles, starting at the bus shelter in the Norman Park car-park (Hayes Lane entrance).

It’s you against the clock.

Latest News & Information
Handicap Race No.5 - 01 August 2017
We had a record August turnout of 40 runners and welcomed new member David Cannon and 2 guest runners, Sam Hemsley and Jason Short.
Well done to Fiona Freel, finishing in first place, knocking close to 4 minutes off her previous run time.
The results will appear below and the cumulative points table, together with a table showing everyone's times in all runs since April will be found in the link above. It's getting exciting with Sue Stevens and Caroline Hone currently within a point of each other at the top of the table!
Next month's race, on Tuesday 5 September, is the last of this year's series. As the days will be shorter by then, the clock will be starting at the earlier time of 7.15pm, so registration will be at 7pm. Afterwards, please join us at The George pub in Hayes for drinks and awards!
Handicap Race No.4 - 4 July 2017
We had a great turn-out of 44 runners on a lovely warm and sunny evening, with 32 beating their handicap and with many runners sprinting together for home, it was quite an exciting finish to watch!
Well done for first placed Rebecca Mansell. Newcomer to the BVAC handicap, Blackheath and Bromley Harriers member Jane Bradshaw set the fastest time on the night, and second fastest time of the season for both men and women, in 12 mins 7 seconds. Amazing! Welcome also to Andy Davies and Jo Kurtelli who ran the handicap race for the first time.
The points table shows (link above) that Sue Stevens is still out in first place on 155 points, with a 3-way tie for second place between Caroline Hone, Selima Merali and Emma Dalmeida, all on 137 points. With 50 points for a first-place in each race, anything could happen!
Next race is Tuesday 1 August, register from 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.
Handicap Race No.3 - 6 June 2017
35 runners turned out on a showery and blustery evening, many sheltering under the bus stop until their time was called to set off. A few members, resting weary legs, came along to support rather than run, and thanks to them for the additional cheer-leading!
As the handicap times worked through, with runners starting between 1m30s and 11m after the clock, it was gratifying to see all the runners finish within just over 2 minutes of each other. Thanks to Roger for the loan of his GoPro as a back up incase I didn't get all the numbers written down quickly enough, as the bulk of the runners finished within a few seconds of each other!
Frances Hooper was first back, for the second time in her second appearance this season, with sister Emily Toynton not far behind in 2nd place and Salima Merali in 3rd. All the results are now in table format below.
The points competition at the half way stage is currently being led by Sue Stevens, with Emma Dalmeida and Clare Unwin not far behind. The leading club member at the end of the last race in September will win the Shircol Trophy (currently held by Simon Cowie). The latest table for this can be found using the link above.
Thanks to everyone who came along and well done to all competing!

Handicap Race 2 May 2017
We had another great turnout of 45 runners, with more first timers as well as the familiar faces - some, such as Rob Brown, claim to have been running this race since 2001! Founder member Joan Burns was at the start to cheer everyone on their way, and she confirmed that the Summer Handicap Race has been a feature of the club since its inception over 27 years ago. Current organiser, Mike Simms, is eager to get his hands on some of the old results so he has even more fascinating stat facts at his fingertips. We can't wait...
On the night, run times were spread between 12.29mins and 24.25mins, but finish times were far closer with large groups of runners appearing around the final corner together as the handicap times worked through. Thanks to Fiona Hemsley for helping to marshal the finishers and shouting out their run numbers as I frantically tried to write them all down in order! A marathon-weary Marijana Urbany brought in the tail, but still with a very respectable time, and I'm sure you'll be back with a blast at the next race Marge!
The points competition has started, the spreadsheet is in the intro section above. With the increased number of runners, this season there is a maximum of 50 points on offer for being first over the line. Caroline Hone is currently in the lead with 90 points - a magnificent start after just 2 races! For those of you new to this format of racing, handicap races give everyone an equal chance of winning, whether fast or not so. The handicapper will base your handicap on previous runs and a bit of jiggery pokery which I'm not allowed to divulge (I might be had for treason) so anything can happen between now and the last race in September! I also hear there might be some new prizes this year, so it's all up for grabs and it pays to turn up as often as you can!
Next race is Tuesday 6 June, meeting at 7.15pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
