Home fixture, Norman Park

Report

An excellent turn-out. Thanks to all who participated or came along to support.

The men put in some excellent performances on the track with the 4x400 relay triumph perhaps the highlight. Dee joined ever presents Ray, Chris and Phil for the first time (in any relay, let alone our squad) to give us a lead at the second change and we never looked back from there winning by over 9 seconds. Phil and Ray took the sprint titles. In the 1500m, Dee won the B event in an excellent sub 5min time and until the latter stages looked like beating all the A runners too for which Ray was beaten on the dip into second; Chris and Les put in excellent runs to take second and fourth in the O/50 and O/60. Martin Fortis returned to be cajoled into taking part in the high jump and javelin (unfortunately his excellent 1.20 effort in the high jump was missed off the results sheet but it made no difference to the meeting result).

The women again gamely had a go and gave it their all. Joan had an excellent win in the javelin O/60 and we loved cheering home the relay team in beating Medway & Maidstone (not to get the wooden spoon, I ought to add). Jackie returned to add something extra to our high jump and javelin while Jane's high jump matched that of the two competitors above her only to lose out on count back (number of failures are earlier height). Bridgit Weekes kindly stepped in at the last minute to put in a great display in the 1500m and 4x400m while BarbaraP delayed going to a social function to join in early events. Helen and Geraldine put in fine efforts in the shot.
