Cranbrook Triathlon - 02 Jun 2013

A bright, cool morning as we set off for Cranbrook in dazzling sunlight. The lost Spring has finally morphed into Summer. Cranbrook triathlon is low key, very friendly and efficiently organised. I would recommend it to anyone considering launching themselves into triathlon.

The swim is 400m in the pool, ducking under lane ropes at the end of every length. Immediately out to transition which I managed to mess up yet again! I will get it right one day. The bike ride is 20k through wonderful Kent countryside with only two or three steepish hills. I managed to avoid them but the roads were yet again littered with holes in the tarmac.

I approached the 5k run with some trepidation as my left knee area has been very unstable lately. But as often happens I ran with little pain; it is next day that pain again kicks in. Must be the adrenalin or determination to keep on running whatever happens. The route is through local woods that includes a switchback of hills. Thank goodness this year there was just a smattering of mud. I finished sprinting over the line in a time just 8 seconds faster than last year! Considering that I am rapidly turning into an ancient, triathlete I am content with that -- 2hours 09.

I was yet again the 0/70 female winner and was presented with a very cute little cup. My next triathlon is in Bristol, a qualifier for the world triathlon chanpionships in Hyde Park in September. Well, miracles can happen so watch this space.
